My Background
I'm an online learning professional with extensive experience in the online higher education industry and in distance and distributed education. I've personally designed, developed, or supervised the development of over 820+ courses and over 45 programs from the associates to doctoral levels. I also have experience designing corporate training and association education and seminars. I have supervised and managed virtual teams of course development professionals for over a decade. In addition, I have extensive experience teaching in the classroom and online at the secondary and university levels. I am ABD in Ph.D.'s in Instructional Design and in US History. I will finish both degrees, but I've taken a break to focus on growing my career and my family. |
My Instructional Design and Leadership Philosophy
During my career I've used a number of instructional design models to develop courses and programs, however, I would consider myself an instructional design pragmatist at heart. I believe the best instructional design model is the one that takes development to the Subject Matter Expert and the content rather than forcing them into a prescribed model. Sometimes, this means deviating a little from the ADDIE or SAM path. My leadership philosophy has evolved from years of supervising virtual teams whose members had a wide spectrum of experience and skill sets. I have been most successful when I hire motivated and team-centered professionals, and empower them to be successful with well-developed tools and templates, resources, supports, and information. Then I stand back and encourage them to collaboratively be amazing, while always being available to provide support and feedback and implement course-corrections if needed. |
